Where do you park your electric vehicle?*This field is required

Why do we need to know this?

Off street parking means that you can park your vehicle on private land that you own or rent.

We need to make sure our installation takes place where the customer owns the property or has permission to use our services. We can’t install in locations where our supply cabling will lay on public land.

Where is your electricity meter located?*This field is required

This is where you take your electricity readings.

Your electric meter will typically be fixed to a wall or board. It is usually located in a white box on a wall outside your home.

Alternatively it can be somewhere inside your home, under stairs or fitted in a cupboard.

Surge Protection Device (SPD) – Important Information & Opt-Out Notice

As part of your EV charger installation, we strongly recommend the inclusion of a Surge Protection Device (SPD) to protect your electrical installation and connected equipment from transient overvoltages (often called power surges). SPDs are designed to detect sudden voltage spikes which can be caused by lightning strikes near power lines, switching activity on the electrical network, or other disturbances and safely divert this excess energy to earth before it reaches and damages your EV charger or other electrical equipment.

Why Surge Protection Matters

Modern EV chargers contain sensitive control circuitry that can be damaged by voltage surges. Without an SPD, your charger or other equipment in your property may be more vulnerable to failure.

A surge event could cause immediate or latent damage requiring repair or replacement, which may not be covered under manufacturer warranties or insurance policies.

Aligned with best practice under current UK wiring regulations: BS 7671 (18th Edition, Amendment 2) states that protection against transient overvoltages should be provided where the effects could lead to significant financial loss or equipment damage. Where such risk exists (as is typical for EV chargers) an SPD should be installed unless the owner opts out and accepts the risk.

What It Means to Opt Out

Under BS 7671(latest edition) (Section 443), SPDs are recommended for EV charger installations, and protection must be considered unless the customer formally elects not to have one installed.

By choosing to opt out you accept the risk that voltage surges could cause damage to your EV charger, other electrical equipment, and potentially result in consequential costs.

Your property and installed equipment may be more exposed to damage from external electrical events (e.g., grid switching surges or nearby lightning).

Any future claims for surge-related damage under manufacturer warranties or home insurance may be affected, depending on policy terms (Please check with your insurer or warranty provider for details.)

Confirmation of Opt-Out

By opting out, you acknowledge that you have been informed about SPDs, understand the potential risks of transient overvoltages, and willingly choose not to include a surge protection device in your installation.
