How do I claim the OZEV EV Chargepoint Grant?

Contact an OZEV-approved installer, like ChargedEV, to get a quote for the installation.

If you’re happy with the quote, you can ask your installer to start your claim. They will then:

  • ask you for you contact details to submit to OZEV
  • send you an email with a link to an online form for OZEV

This form is to provide details of your property and your electric vehicle to OZEV. The form checks that you are eligible for the grant.

Once your eligibility is confirmed, OZEV will let your installer know that they can commence the installation.

The installer must either complete the work within 90 days of your application being approved, or request an extension. If this isn’t done, the installer should submit a new application.

When your installer finishes the installation; they will claim the grant on your behald.

They will provide OZEV with details of the chargepoint that you had installed, along with photos of the installation and an invoice.

Your installer must deduct the grant amount from your bill before they apply for the grant, and your invoice must show the total installation cost minus the grant amount.

Important information: you can only claim the grant before the installation of your home charger.

Which vehicles are eligible to claim the OZEV Grant?

All full battery electric vehicles can claim for the OZEV Grant – but not all plug-in vehicles are eligible; they must have CO2 emissions that are calculated to be under 50g/km.

Check the OZEV eligible vehicles list on the government website to see if yours qualifies.

FAQs

Can I still claim if I change my EV in the future?

You can’t claim the grant again if you’ve already used it for a previous EV if you change it. The OZEV EV Chargepoint Grant allows only one claim per household per eligible EV.

What happens if I don’t qualify?

If you don’t meet the qualification criteria, for example you don’t live in a rented property or a flat with dedicated off-street parking, you won’t be able to claim the grant. You should still be able to install a home charger though – just at full cost. If circumstances change (e.g., you move to an eligible property), you could apply in the future if you meet the eligibility requirements then.

Do I need permission from my landlord?

Yes, if you’re renting, you’ll generally need to get your landlord’s permission before installing a home EV chargepoint, as it involves modifications to the property. It’s best to discuss your plan with your landlord early to ensure they’re on board, as this could affect your ability to proceed with installation.

What is the typical cost of a home charger installation?

The typical cost for installing a home EV chargepoint can range from £800 to £1,000+, depending on the model and any additional installation needs. With the OZEV EV Chargepoint Grant, you can get up to £350 off this cost, which can significantly reduce the final amount you’ll need to pay if you’re eligible.
