Auto Windscreens

We upgraded Auto Windscreen’s head office in Chesterfield to enable hassle-free charging for their fleet, staff and visitors.

Project Overview

Auto Windscreens, a carbon neutral windscreen repair company needed 6 7kW chargers upgrading with an additional 4 installed at their head office in Chesterfield to enable hassle free and reliable charging for their fleet, staff and visitors. This meant 10 22kW sockets across the sites in Phase 1 of the installation.

The installation was project managed within ChargedEV, as well as ChargedEV being the sole supplier and installer throughout the project including EVSE, groundworks and back-office management.

Challenges

Although there was infrastructure in place, this was installed to prior regulations so needed bringing up to date, not OCPP compliant for their back office needs, as well as not adequate for the future proof solution that Auto Windscreens required.

This meant that we had to remove the existing infrastructure, reverse the original groundworks before we could start a brand new installation alongside planning in the new electric vehicle supply equipment. A new route to a different distribution board was planned.

Alongside this, Auto Windscreen’s business needed to not have any down time, so precise planning for final connection was undertaken.

The Solution

Brand new, faster chargers moving from 7kW to 22kW with a Chargeasy back-end solution to enable Auto Windscreens to provide different tariff rates to electric vehicle drivers.

This enabled Auto Windscreens to identify who was charging and when; including fleet vehicles, staff and visitors.

With a simple QR code to scan on the charger; EV drivers are able to park, scan the app, plug in and charge with peace of mind and the ability to monitor throughout the day.

This was applied to all 10 22kW Easee chargers assigned to 10 different parking bays, including dedicated parking and access to an easy to use charger for disabled drivers.

Shaun Atton, Business Support Director said:

“ChargedEV made numerous site visits, even with the scope changing numerous times and sometimes at late notice to discuss options for our installs. Having touchpoints with various departments within ChargedEV helped make sure we were all working towards the same goal.

Recommendations were made along the journey that meant we were getting the best possible solution for our requirements, these were always discussed in detail but in basic enough terms for a person with little charge point experience to understand. Install teams were professional, tidy and adhered to all site Health and Safety instructions.

From quote to install ChargedEV were faultless.

The need for upgraded and additional sockets was a requirement to support our transition to an EV fleet and support our sustainability ambitions, as a company that has committed to Science Based Targets, charging infrastructure is a fundamental part in meeting our goals.

The back office platform allows a full reporting suite and quick glance dashboard which helps our teams with fault finding, financial and environmental reporting.”
